Experiences - Fashion Week
New York City, New York

The Fall/ Winter 2019 Fashion Week has started in New York City from Friday, February 8 - Saturday, February 16.

New York Fashion Week has changed their official venue year after year. For years the majority of the shows were held in tents in Bryant Park. Then the shows were moved to a more permanent structure at the United States Postal Service building located across the street from Madison Square Garden during their 2016 seasons.

In 2016 I was a production assistant (PA) for the production team for New York Fashion Week for 2 seasons. There were many early mornings and late nights but it was a wonderful experience to be able to help the designers and their teams and get first-hand experience into the production side of fashion deign.

The venue had two stages for simultaneous shows; split into two teams we would set up the dressing room areas - set up mirrors and lights, restock the water and refreshments, and help the models and talent. Our team would also set up the seating around the runway - place the brochures, tape down seating numbers, help the talent and patrons find their seats and clean up for the next show.

The uniform attire for working at Fashion Week was all black. Now that I am not working, I decided to make a dress with bright pops of color. The fabric that I used is the Dress to Impress Mood Exclusive Cotton Voile fabric.

The pattern is Butterick Lisette #B6168 option B, a misses keyhole dress. The dress features a center back invisible zipper, waistband, keyhole, and short sleeves. The dress is unlined and light and breezy in this lightweight cotton fabric. My favorite part is the bodice - the cross-over bodice and keyhole are very flattering for someone with a larger bust.

These are a few photos from my experience as a PA and the dress that I have made for Fashion Week:
